The public transportation in San Francisco is second-to-none and is the first choice of many of its residents and visitors. Whether it’s by bus, cable car or ferry, you’ll find it easy to navigate the city. Our hotel’s near the famous San Francisco cable car station on Powell and Market Streets; and right below it, is the Powell Bart Station. While there is a lot that’s within walking distance, you can get around the entire city when you take advantage of the transportation system that’s earned so many accolades.
Before you head out to explore the city, check the schedules for BART. Cards in various denominations are available for purchase from vending machines at most BART stations as well as online. You can stop by our concierge desk and we can help you plan your route for the day’s activities, and we can also help you arrange to use a Zipcar, which is available in our underground garage.
For adventures that are a bit further than you’d want to walk, our concierge can easily arrange for tours to the Golden Gate Park, Alcatraz, City Tour, Muir Woods, Sausalito, Wine Country and Yosemite.

San Francisco Cable Cars
At Powell and Market streets, there is a cable car turntable which serves as the beginning stop for two lines, the Powell-Mason and Powell-Hyde lines. The Powell-Mason line begins at the Powell/ Market turntable, and the line runs from there up and over Nob Hill and down to Bay Street at Fisherman’s Wharf. The Powell-Hyde line also begins at the Powell Market turntable and runs over Nob and Russian hills before ending at Aquatic Park near Ghiradelli Square. Both these lines end near Fisherman’s Wharf, but at different areas, and the routes are significantly different. Paying close attention to the signs on the cable cars will help you distinguish where in Fisherman’s Wharf you will find yourself.
The Powell Bart Station is just 1 block away from the Pickwick Hotel. You can take BART to and from San Francisco International Airport or Oakland International Airport. Bart links San Francisco with the East Bay and Daly City. In San Francisco, trains run underground along Market Street.
